Manual Picture Cropping in Word

First, insert an image in your word document that you want to use. Or open a word file that has an image in it which you want to crop. Example below,

Now, you can simply right click on the picture, so the menu appears, and “Crop” is a part of the menu. For example:

Click on the “Crop” and you will see little bars or handles all around the corners of the image. Example below:

You can now click on those bars or lines and drag that to a specific size according to your need. When you resize an image in word, you will notice that space outside your image is highlighted in dark. This gives you a quick preview about how your picture would look at the end. Example below:

Crop an Image into a Specific Shape

There are some specific shapes already given here. You can use them too in you image.

For that, double click on the picture to activate the “Picture Format” tab with a new ribbon. Look at the right corner of the ribbon, under the group size, you will find “Crop”. (This way saves time).

Or, click on  the image you want to resize. a new tab will appear “Picture Format”. Click on “Picture Format” .  A new ribbon will open immediately. 

Now, if you click on “Crop” there you will find a drop-down menu. Check out the dropdown menu for more options such as cropping into a specific shape or aspect ratio. Example below:

Click on the “Specific Shape” to see the options. There are several options available which you can apply immediately into your image. Such as, 

  1. Rectangle
  2. Basic shape
  3. Block arrows

Crop an Image into an Aspect Ratio

This method will let you use some standard formats. You can use this format to make the image appear more formal in your document.

For that, double click on the picture to activate the “Picture Format” tab with a new ribbon. Look at the right corner of the ribbon, under the group size, you will find “Crop”. (This way saves time).

Or, click on the image you want to resize. a new tab will open “Picture format”. Click on “Picture Format” .  A new ribbon opens immediately. Look at the right corner of the ribbon. Now, if you click on “Crop” there you will find a drop-down menu. Check out the dropdown menu for more options such as cropping into a specific shape or aspect ratio. Example below: 

Now to see the aspect ratio list click on “Aspect Ratio”. There another sub menu appears with option details in it. Example below:

There are three options available. Which are:

  2. Portrait
  3. Landscape

All these three options come with a specific ratio. You can choose any option from here according to your need. Example below:

In the picture above, I have used a Landscape 3:2 ratio. You can use any option and ratio you want.
